Well, I wish I’d known about this great site sooner! BookBub was founded in 2012 as an ebook “discovery service.” When you sign up for a free account, you enter your favorite platform for purchasing ebooks, click on a your preferred genres, then select a few books from the samples they provide as good choices for you. After that, deals are sent in a daily email. For example, today I was treated to the opportunity to buy Terry Pratchett’s THE LONG COSMOS, TJ Klune’s THE HOUSE ON THE CERULEAN SEA for only 1.99. These deals come from the publishers, with BookBub serving as a distributor.
Chirp, launched in 2019, is BookBub’s audio book service. Unlike BookBub, with which your purchase goes directly to your eReader, Chirp purchased audiobooks must be listened to on the Chirp app (which is quite intuitive in my experience so far). As with their parent company, deals come from the publishers and are shared on the app. As an avid audiobook reader, I’m really appreciating Chirp for some great finds!
I listened to an interview (from clear back in 2017) on the podcast The Best Seller Experiment (Highly recommend!), and learned indie authors can submit a book to the platforms’ editorial team. However, it’s not easy and all of the other advice for getting attention as a self-published author (from reviews to blurbs) apply. There’s a lot more to it from the author side, but for now, I hope all you readers of digital books find this helpful!
Oh, and don’t forget about the library for all mediums when it comes to books! Libby for electronic and audiobooks, and Overdrive for another selection of ebooks (why the two are still somewhat separate baffles me…)
